AV関係ニュース : HD DVD終焉も、Blu-ray販売向上には結びつかず？
Blu-rayとHD DVDによる次世代DVD規格の争いは、HD DVDの撤退という形で決着が付きました。
しかし、だからといってBlu-rayが安穏としていられるわけでは無いようで・・・

It looks like the death of the HD DVD format did not boost Blu-ray player sales after all, going by Blu-ray sales figures from the NPD Group. Another problem for Blu-ray is that a report from ABI Research has found that many consumers may not see any difference between the picture quality of Blu-ray against the legacy DVD format. Going by NPD, standalone Blu-ray player sales tumbled 40% between January and February and then improved by only 2% in March.
この記事によれば、Blu-rayプレイヤーの販売は2月に40%も急落したあと、3月に改善したのはわずか2%だけだそうです。
消費者の興味は、高価なBlu-rayプレイヤーよりも優秀なアップスケーリング機能を備えた安価なDVDプレイヤーに移っているようで、事実アップスケーラー付きDVDプレイヤーの販売台数は2007年と比較して5%増加している模様。
（一方で、アップスケーラーの無いDVDプレイヤーの販売台数は39%ダウンとなっているとのこと）
